Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton 'too different to become best friends'

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are "too different" to become good friends - despite Prince Harry's hopes they could develop a close relationship.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl say the duchesses have entirely different backgrounds and have little in common except for their other halves.

She said there does appear to be some tensions between the pair but dismissed reports of a "feud" as wide of the mark.

She told the Sun: "I had heard that while Harry, 34, was very keen for the two of them to become best friends, there was never that sort of a friendship.

"They quite quickly realised they were two pretty mature women — quite different women — and really the only thing they had in common was they'd married princes."

Ms Nicholl also said that Meghan and Kate have been forced to put on a united front while out in public so as not to fuel speculation of a rift.

But she added that the relationship between Harry and WIlliam has been strained for quite some time.

Katie said: "I do think there is some truth to there having been some tension—not just between the duchesses but between the dukes, as well."

She also confirmed the Duchess of Cambridge was reduced to tears during a dress fitting for Princess Charlotte in the lead up to the royal wedding last summer.

The Queen has a 'favourite son' - and it's caused a huge royal rift

Earlier this week it was reported that William could miss the birth of the new royal baby as he gets set for an official visit to New Zealand next month .

The palace confirmed the visit in a tweet which read: "The Duke of Cambridge will visit New Zealand on behalf of The Queen to honour the victims of the Christchurch mosques terrorist attack.

"The visit in late April will be made at the request of the Prime Minister of New Zealand."
