Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton congratulated Beatrice on wedding very differently

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton both congratulated Princess Beatrice on her wedding despite not being in attendance - but in very different ways.

Prince Andrew's eldest daughter tied the knot with property developer Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi during an intimate ceremony on Friday at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor.

The wedding was originally pencilled in for May 29 in a service at the Chapel Royal, at St James’s Palace, with a reception in the gardens of Buckingham Palace, but the lockdown scuppered those plans.

Once restrictions were eased, it was then quickly organised on a much smaller scale - with less than 20 guests - before the royals head off for their annual summer holiday at the Balmoral estate.

As a result, while the Queen and Prince Philip were among those on the guest list, Prince William and Kate did not attend, and neither did Prince Harry and Meghan, who are currently living in Los Angeles.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex sent their congratulations to Beatrice and Edoardo privately, a source told Hello! magazine.

However, no additional details were given.

In contrast, the Duchess of Cambridge opted to congratulate Beatrice more publicly.

Kate and William’s Kensington Royal Instagram account shared a picture with well-wishes to the newly-weds.

The picture came with a caption that said: "Congratulations to HRH Princess Beatrice and Mr Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi who were married in a small private ceremony at the Royal Chapel of All Saints at Royal Lodge, Windsor on Friday!"

Just 14 friends were invited to the reception following the intimate ceremony that was attended by less than 20 guests, including Mr Mapelli Mozzi's son Christopher, known as Wolfie.

Prince Andrew was omitted from the official photos meaning Sarah, the Duchess of York, the groom’s parents and his son did not feature either.

However, Andrew was able to walk his daughter down the aisle.

Beatrice wore a Peau De Soie taffeta dress by Norman Hartnell, previously worn by the Queen.

The ivory gown, trimmed with Duchess satin and encrusted with glittering diamante, was remodelled and fitted by the Queen's senior dresser Angela Kelly and designer Stewart Parvin, Buckingham Palace said.

The newlyweds partied into the early hours before spending their wedding night in a glamping pod, according to reports.
