Meghan Markle and Harry send congratulations to Princess Eugenie on birth of baby boy

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have sent their congratulations to Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank on the birth of their first child.

Eugenie and Jack welcomed a baby boy yesterday morning, announcing the news with a sweet photo on social media.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said the Queen and Prince Philip were "delighted" by the news.

Harry, who is Eugenie's cousin, and Meghan have privately congratulated the new parents, reports Hello!.

The Sussexes are currently living in LA, which means it will probably be a while before they get to meet the new royal baby - but they've managed to catch up virtually.

The little boy - who is yet to be officially named - was born at The Portland Hospital in London at 8.55am on Tuesday, weighing 8lbs 1oz.

A statement from the Palace said: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered a son today, 9th February 2021, at 08:55hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present.

"The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.

"This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

Harry and Eugenie are extremely close, so it's not surprising that he was among the first to send a lovely message.

Insiders say that of all of the Queen's grandchildren, Harry and Eugenie had the "most natural connections" and are the "closest of friends".

Growing up, Eugenie and Harry spent a lot of time together as their mums, Princess Diana and Sarah Ferguson, were good friends.

The royal duo enjoyed family holidays together and hit the London club scene together when they were older.

When they were young, they were regulars at the popular London club, Mahiki, and would sneak in the back entrance.

They have many a fun night doing shots and drinking frozen margaritas.

In their book Finding Freedom, royal journalists Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand claim Harry and Eugenie's roles within the royal family was the base of their relationship.

They write: "Like Harry, Eugenie also struggled to carve out her own identity growing up.

"Not being in a senior role meant that she had to go out into the world and find her own path, which she has done, moving to New York in 2013 to work at Paddle8, the auction house run by Misha's husband and Harry's friend Alexander.

"Harry had always confided in his cousin when it came to the women in his life.

"Not only did he trust her implicitly, but friends say that she gives great advice and has always been "beyond wise" for her years."

Eugenie was one of the first people Harry told about Meghan, and he was keen to introduce them.

They hit it off straight away, and enjoyed double dates at some fancy locations.

Eugenie reportedly told a friend Meghan was "just the tonic" for her cousin.

Eugenie and Jack briefly moved into Meghan and Harry's Windsor home, Frogmore Cottage, after they moved to the US.
