Meghan Markle and Harry's LA move 'makes mockery of pledge', say 'horrified' insiders

Royal insiders have slammed Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's decision to move to California, saying it "makes a mockery" of their claim they wanted to live in Canada as it's in the Commonwealth, it has been reported.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who officially quit the Royal Family next week, are said to be in LA already having boarded a private plane before the countries closed their borders to all non-essential travel to try and stop the spread of coronavirus Covid-19.

However, people close to the family are "stunned and horrified" they didn't opt to come back to the UK amid the pandemic, reports the Sun.

A insider told the newspaper: “We are stunned and horrified. The country is going through a traumatic event at the moment. They have a beautiful cottage in Windsor where they could have based themselves.

“It’s just a stone’s throw away from where the Queen and Prince Philip are in self-isolation.

“Prince Charles and Prince Andrew are both out of action too for very different reasons. This was an opportunity for them to put country before their own interests. California isn’t going anywhere.”

Meghan and Harry made the decision to move after realising "Canada would not work out for various reasons".

The Duchess grew up in LA, so has a strong support network there including her mum Doria Ragland.

The Sussex family are said to be self-isolating, with the couple cutting down contact with staff, but there is nothing to suggest any of them are unwell.

They are reportedly asking anyone who comes into their house to wear latex gloves.

Prince Harry has urged his grandmother the Queen to "stay safe" and "take extra precautions", and has always spoken to to his father who is the Royal Family's first confirmed case.

Prince Charles was seen publicly for the first time last night since testing positive, when he joined thousands of other people around the UK to 'Clap for our Carers'.
