Meghan Markle and Harry's Christmas with Archie and Lilibet - parades and royal calls

The Queen will be celebrating Christmas at Windsor Castle again this year, and members of the royal family are expected to visit during the holidays.

But it's unlikely that her visitors will include Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are expected to stay in California with their children.

It will be their second Christmas in the Golden State but it will also be a major milestone - their first festive season as a family of four following the arrival of their seven-month-old daughter Lilibet.

But what exactly have they been getting up to this Christmas time and how might they be spending the next few days? Here we take a look...

It's likely that Harry and Meghan will be staying in California to spend Christmas with son Archie and baby Lilibet.

If this is the case, it will be the second year running that they have spent the festive season in the state.

Of course, the Queen is spending Christmas at Windsor Castle due to soaring Covid rates but she had originally planned to have a big get-together with the rest of the family at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.

Last month it was reported that Her Majesty had extended an invitation for Harry and Meghan to spend Christmas at Sandringham with the rest of the royals.

However, a source told Page Six: "There’s a lot that goes into the logistics and the planning of the family Christmas, so of course, staff know that Harry and Meghan are not coming.

“If they were, they would have communicated it to their family by now.

“But this is Her Majesty’s first Christmas without her husband, so one would have hoped they would want to be with her.”

The Sussexes have not commented on the claims.

However, it could be that rather than being there in person, Harry and Meghan catch up with their royal relatives over Christmas over Zoom instead.

As well as spending time as a family of four, could Harry and Meghan be spending time with others?

It could be that Meghan's mother Doria spends some time with the couple and their children as she also lives in California.

Last year, it was reported that Harry and Meghan also spent time at Christmas with Grammy award-winning producer David Foster and his actress-singer wife Katharine McPhee, who went to school with Meghan.

David and Katherine welcomed their first child together this year, meaning their baby is a similar age to Lilibet.

Other friends close by to Harry and Meghan include talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi.

Meghan appeared on Ellen's show last month, where she revealed the TV star and her wife had spent Halloween with Harry and Meghan. Could they also spend time together at Christmas too?

There are no Covid restrictions in California that stops household mixing but there are rules regarding Covid passports vaccine and masks in public places.

Christmas parade

Although it's not known what Harry and Meghan's exact plans for Christmas Day are, it seems in the run-up to the big day, they have been getting in the festive spirit.

Yesterday, it was revealed they had sponsored a holiday parade in Montecito, the place where they live in California.

Chief of the Montecito Association Sharon Byrne was speaking on ITV's Good Morning Britain with Lorraine, when she told of Harry and Meghan's sweet gesture for the town.

She said: "I have to tell you that Harry and Meghan did sponsor our first ever Montecito holiday parade. They were the first people to sponsor it. Very good neighbours."

Asked how they got involved, she added: "They reached out to us last year and we gave them some assistance with some issues they were having when they moved in and they said, right how do we join and what are we doing?

Asked how they got involved, she added: "They reached out to us last year and we gave them some assistance with some issues they were having when they moved in and they said, right how do we join and what are we doing?

"They came to the fourth of July parade and no one knew it was them and they waved at everybody at the fourth of July parade and then they called me and they said we'd really like to help with that. So I said we had a Christmas parade coming up, why don't you do that and so they did."

Christmas shopping

Meanwhile, last week, Meghan was spotted "frantically" loading up on Christmas gifts during a solo shopping trip in Montecito.

According to the Daily Mail, Meghan spent time in Pierre LaFond & Co, an upmarket grocery store that also boasts a gift and home furnishings section, where she emerged from carrying several bags.

She is also said to have browsed in a children's clothes store and another home furnishings store before heading home.

For the trip, Meghan wore a brown Massimo Dutti coat, boots and a beanie hat, which she teamed with sunglasses and a face mask.

An onlooker told the publication: "There was a franticness to her shopping, like she was just itching to get out and be somewhat normal.

"Even if it was for just an hour."

Message on Archewell and Christmas card?

As yet, Harry and Meghan have yet to release any pictures of Lilibet - and neither has a family Christmas card been made public.

Could it be that fans will get their first glimpse of the little girl if the couple release their Christmas card picture?

Also, could it be that Harry and Meghan will release a festive message on their Archewell website for their fans and supporters?
