Meghan Markle 'also grieving loss of family member' as she was 'close' to Philip

Meghan Markle was said to be grieving the loss of a family member because she was reportedly close to late Prince Philip.

Omid Scobie claimed his pregnant friend was "sad" because she had grown "very close" to the Queen and Philip when he covered the funeral for ABC News.

Pregnant Meghan stayed at home in Los Angeles on the day of the funeral after doctors advised her she couldn't make the long haul flight to the UK.

Prince Harry made the journey on his own but Omid said Meghan had been a great support to her husband throughout the difficult week.

He said: "Although Meghan isn’t here, she is of course supporting Harry.... her mind is very much on the situation over here."

He added: "We know that she’s supporting Harry in this very difficult week for him, but she’ll also be sad because this is also the loss of a family member for her.

"She grew very close to the queen and Prince Philip over the recent years. It was probably her strongest relationship within the family and those relations then get smaller this week.

"It’ll be a sad day for her."

Omid wrote Finding Freedom about Meghan and Harry's love story after working closely with the couple.

The author was on the ground in London reporting on the funeral.

The funeral for the Duke of Edinburgh was held at George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday.

It played out on TV screens all over the UK on BBC.

Omid led the star-studded US coverage for Prince Philip's funeral over the weekend.

Meghan's friend Gayle King also was reporting on the funeral for CBS.
