The trailer for the upcoming Lifetime film Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace has been released – and portrays Meghan Markle sobbing on the floor.
The network shared a teaser for the fictional flick, which is set to be released on September 6, on Thursday afternoon.
The movie is a dramatisation of the events that led the couple to step down from their royal duties and sees Jordan Dean play Harry and Sydney Morton as Meghan.
Some of the fictional scenes included in the trailer see the Queen telling off Harry and his brother Prince William for “fuelling uncertainty” while another moment shows Meghan telling her husband “they need to hear the truth”.

Most notably, the teaser includes a scene of a sobbing Meghan in Harry’s arms on the floor, appearing to reference the Duchess of Sussex’ bombshell confession that she had suicidal thoughts during her time in the royal family.
Earlier this year, the royal told Oprah Winfrey that she said she had a "real and frightening and constant thought" about ending her life but that Prince Harry "cradled her" to calm her before they attended a Cirque du Soleil performance at Royal Albert Hall in 2019.
In light of the new trailer, royal fans took to the comments section on YouTube to hilariously react to the film’s storyline.
One viewer penned: “Oh I was sooo hoping this would be a hilarious parody”.
“Can’t wait to NOT watch this,” another shared. “Over exaggerating bs”.
A third commented: “Is this supposed to be a comedy or drama?”.
“LOOL I thought this was going to be a parody,” another lamented.
Despite the ribbing, many said they couldn’t wait to watch the fictional offering.

This is Lifetime’s third film about the couple, the first being Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance and was inspired by their early romance.
Harry & Meghan: Becoming Royal then came out a year later in 2019 and was a dramatisation of their first few months of married life.
Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace will air on Lifetime on September 6 in the US. No date has been announced for the UK yet.
