Meghan Markle suggested Buckingham Palace was "perpetuating falsehoods" about her and her husband Prince Harry. Asked during a CBC interview how she felt about the Palace hearing her speak out, Markle replied: "I don't know how they could expect that after all of this time we would still just be silent if there's an active role that The Firm is playing in perpetuating falsehoods about us."
The interview with US chat show host Oprah Winfrey was recorded before The Times newspaper made claims that Markle faces a bullying complaint from her time living in Kensington Palace, AFP reported.
Hours before the newspaper's report, Buckingham Palace issued a statement to express concerns about the allegations against Markle. "We are clearly very concerned about allegations in The Times following claims made by former staff of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex," it said.
"Our HR team will look into the circumstances. Members of staff involved at the time, including those who have left the Household, will be invited to participate to see if lessons can be learned. The Royal Household... does not and will not tolerate bullying or harassment in the workplace," the statement added.
The Times reported on Wednesday that Jason Knauf, Harry and Meghan's well-regarded communication chief in that period, made a bullying complaint in October 2018.
The couple's lawyers told The Times that "the Palace is using the newspaper to spread a false story ahead of Harry and Meghan's interview with Winfrey on March 7. Royal authors are anticipating what the couple would say during the interview about their decision to cut ties with the Royal family and their life away from the crown.
