Meghan Markle accused of 'chickening out' of King's Coronation by Meghan McCain

Meghan Markle's decision to stay away from the Coronation of King Charles III next month has been criticised by Meghan McCain who insists the actress is "chickening out".

It was announced on Wednesday that Prince Harry would be attending the ceremony by himself while his wife and kids stay at home.

The momentous occasion lands on the birthday of the pair's son Prince Archie and it's thought the Duke of Sussex's UK trip will be a fleeting visit.

While some have accepted the potential reasons for the former Suits star to miss out, US TV personality Meghan McCain isn't buying it and was scathing in her response to the announcement.

Writing in the Daily Mail, she labelled the Duchess of Sussex "obsessed" with being on the camera, so she didn't understand why she wouldn't attend the hugely publicised ceremony.

She claimed she felt Meghan's no-show is simply a "gallant effort at public-relations spin".

"No one in their right mind believes Hollywood Meghan Markle is passing up a chance to peacock in front of the world to blow up balloons and serve cake in the backyard," she exclaimed.

Calling out the apparent reason for Markle to stay stateside, McCain continued: "They couldn’t celebrate in the U.K.? Pssst… a preschooler has no idea what country he’s in.

Instead, she insisted she felt that the actress is "chickening out," saying: "It seems to me that she is clearly unwilling to face the music with her in-laws and the British public."

Despite her opinions, a survey has suggested the pair's decision has boosted their popularity.

McCain's words come after Prince Harry and his wife delayed announcing their attendance before deciding Harry would fly solo.

Insiders said Harry was aware the historic occasion will be "pretty much the most important day" of the King's life and felt he simply had to be there, even if those closest to him are not.

It's thought that Harry will play a minimal role in his dad's big day on May 6 and won't be seen alongside is older brother Prince William as their feud rumbles on.

Reports indicate Harry will be sat with other non-working members of the Royal Family and those he has no bad blood with, including the likes of Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie and their husbands.

A source told The Mirror: "Harry has been very clear and his position hasn't wavered – he isn't going to come if he feels the atmosphere will be as toxic as it was during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and funeral.

"He's said he wants to reconcile with his family and it’s their call, but so far nothing has changed."
