Meghan blogged about Kate's wedding before claiming she 'didn't know much about royals'

Meghan Markle blogged about Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding years before claiming she didn't know much about the royal family in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey adding that she hadn't researched her future husband.

The American former actress explained to the TV mogul that she "didn't grow up knowing much about the royal family" and did not Google Prince Harry before she met him.

The 39-year-old, who is expecting her second child, also claimed she did not even know how to curtsey when she first met the Queen at The Royal Lodge in Windsor.

The Duchess of Sussex said: "It wasn’t part of something that was part of the conversation at home. It wasn’t something that we followed."

But Meghan wrote about her dream of becoming a princess and Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding in her blog seven years ago.

The mum-of-one was working as an actor in 2014 when she wrote in her now-defunct blog The Tig about "the pomp" surrounding Kate and William's 2011 wedding and how she grew up dreaming of becoming a princess, Daily Star reports.

A section published by The Sun states: "Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power.

"For those of you unfamiliar with the '80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength.

"We're definitely not talking about Cinderella here.

"Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate."

Several of Meghan's childhood friends have claimed that she took a close interest in the royal family growing up, particularly Princess Diana.

Ninaki Priddy told The Sun that Meghan was "always fascinated" by the royal family and wanted to be "Princess Diana 2.0".

While royal biographer Andrew Morton said that when Meghan was 16, she watched the funeral of Princess Diana with "tears coursing down her cheeks".

Meghan, whose mum is black, and Harry made several explosive claims during the controversial sit-down interview with Oprah.

The couple made the shocking claim that a member of the royal family, who they refused to name, expressed concern over "how dark" their son Archie's skin might be.

Meghan also said she felt suicidal at one point, but was told she could not get professional help because "it wouldn't be good for the institution".

Meghan, who is due to give birth to a baby girl in the summer, said life in the family had taken a devastating toll on her mental health, stating: "I just didn't want to be alive anymore."

Harry then intervened to say he went to “a very dark place” after his wife told him of her suicidal thoughts.

He said he felt ashamed admitting that he had issues, and he felt unsure whether other members of the family suffered with mental health.

“It’s a very trapping environment that a lot of them are stuck in,” he tells Oprah.

But he claims he didn’t know how to tell anyone - and that it was not normal to speak about such things in the Royal Family.

“That’s just not a conversation that would be had,” he said.

Harry also said his dad Prince Charles "stopped taking his calls" after he stepped back from royal duties and his family have cut him off financially.

The 36-year-old said they had to strike lucrative deals with streaming giants Netflix and Spotify after so-called Megxit.

The deals are helping to fund the family's lavish lifestyle in suburban Los Angeles, including their £10.5 million mansion in a private enclave for the rich and famous, and other things such as security, which the royals have refused to pay for.

The couple are said to have amassed a £100 million net worth thanks to the home's value soaring, their deals with tech giants, and the fortunes left to Harry by his mum Princess Diana and great-grandmother the Queen Mother, the Times reported.

The programme was watched by more than 11 million people when it first aired in the UK on ITV last Monday the day after it was broadcast in the US.
