A royal author who appeared on Good Morning Britain on Wednesday claimed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will 'never cut themselves off' from the royal family entirely.
Robert Lacey was discussing his new book on the ITV breakfast show, where he spoke about the reasons why Harry and Meghan still wish to be associated with the Monarchy.
The married couple, who have just welcomed a baby girl, stepped away as senior representatives last year to lead a quiet life outside of the public eye.
"The point is they will never cease to be royal,” Robert explained to GMB hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray.
"We will never cease to think of Harry as Diana’s son, and William’s brother."
He continued: "At the end of the day, that's the interest they hold for the rest of the world and I think that actually is a reason for hope in the future.
"They are never going to want to cut themselves off because frankly if they do cut themselves off, one wonders whether Netflix would want to renew their contract."
Robert also claimed that the unveiling of the Diana statue could help Harry and William reconcile.
The author's new revised book claims talks of a family negotiation following Prince Philip's funeral were not true, with it also suggesting the brothers had been on bad terms for a while even before Harry stepped back from his royal duties.
William and Harry were said to have had a bitter row according to the book, with this said to have led to the family divide.
The author said the statue unveiling could be the moment that things change, as the brothers unite to remember their late mother.
He said of the meeting not going ahead: "Apparently nothing came of it once they got inside, certainly the report that they had a big family sit-down was sadly denied by both sides."
Robert added: "You just showed Gayle King, their friend, talking on television. I think the feeling was when it came to the Oprah interview, as ghastly as it was with all these family revelations being aired, that was it.
"The feeling was you can't have a serious family negotiation if it's going to be talked about on American television the day afterwards. This would make things a problem."
Robert also defended the public's interest in the royal family and their personal lives.
He said: "The job of the monarchy [is a representative family], the monarchy no longer exists to rule the country, the monarchy - back in the time of Queen Victoria, said ‘our new job is to be a representative family, to represent Britain to the world and to ourselves’.
"To show us how to live in a way, so it is legitimate to talk about them," he added.
