Meghan and Harry’s Archewell trademark application rejected as plans are ‘too vague’

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archewell trademark application for their new charitable organisation has been been rejected for being "too vague".

The pair, now adjusting to life in Los Angeles, had hoped to launch the non-profit this year but the coronavirus outbreak has resulted in delays.

Their plans have hit a further stumbling block after the United States Patent and Trademark Office objected to the "vague" nature of Archewell.

The paperwork was submitted on March 3 and filed by by Cobblestone Lane LLC, a Delaware-based firm which has links to Meghan Markle.

An examiner was assigned to review their application on May 26 and they have since been sent an 'Irregularity Notice', reports The Sun.

The notice demands a number of changes which need to be made by the couple's attorney by August - or the application will be thrown out.

The notice reads: "The wording 'providing a website featuring content relating to philanthropy, monetary giving, volunteer and career opportunities' in International Class 35 is also indefinite and over broad, and must be clarified to specify the nature of the content provided."

The notice also states that Meghan and Harry have failed to cough up additional fees to process the application.

To make matters worse the non-final office action was unsigned which meant that the application could not be verified.

Despite this, their trademark can be held without being active until the amendments are made.

Harry and Meghan are launching Archewell, a well-being empire that is named after their son Archie, which will reportedly run emotional support groups and a multi-media educational empire.

The couple said Archewell was created "to do something of meaning, to do something that matters".

The Duke and Duchess told the Daily Telegraph: "Like you, our focus is on supporting efforts to tackle the global Covid-19 pandemic but faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be.

"Before SussexRoyal, came the idea of 'Arche' - the Greek word meaning 'source of action'.

"We connected to this concept for the charitable organisation we hoped to build one day, and it became the inspiration for our son's name.

"We look forward to launching Archewell when the time is right."
