Meghan and Harry’s Archewell director Catherine St-Laurent leaves role after just a year

The director of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Archewell foundation has left her role after just a year.

Catherine St-Laurent joined the charity in April 2020, however she is now no longer its leader and has instead taken a purely advisory role at Archewell.

Despite this, her LinkedIn profile says she is still executive director of the charity - and Harry and Meghan's Chief of Staff.

It comes as Harry and Meghan appointed Academy Award nominated producer Ben Browning to head up Archewell Productions and Archewell Audio, which are at the centre of the couple's Netflix and Spotify deals.

Before being poached by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Ms St-Laurent worked for Bill Gates' charitable ventures for eight years.

Confirming her departure from her hands-on role, a spokesperson said: “She will continue to bring high-level strategic guidance to Archewell, which she helped launch and build over the course of the past year.”

The announcement of St-Laurent’s leaving was made as it was revealed James Holt, the couple’s UK representative, has been named executive director of Archewell.

The New York Post first reported the bombshell news about Ms St-Laurent's departure from Archewell.

It comes after the Sussexes lost various members of staff during their time in the UK, including Meghan's personal assistant, a senior communications officer and their private secretary.

The Times last month reported that Meghan had been accused of bullying Kensington Palace staff in official complaints, however she has denied any wrongdoing and branded the allegations as a 'smear campaign'.

An investigation was prompted after a senior Palace aide had accused the Duchess of "unacceptable behaviour" towards two personal assistants and undermined a third's confidence.

The complaint against Meghan was first made in October 2018, by Jason Knauf, then the Sussexes' communications secretary, who wrote in an email to a senior courtier: "I am very concerned that the duchess was able to bully two PAs out of the household in the past year," describing her behaviour as "totally unacceptable".

He added: "The Duchess seems intent on always having someone in her sights."

When Ms St-Laurent was hired last year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: "We are proud to be joined by Catherine St-Laurent in this next chapter with us.

“Her leadership and proven track record working within two organisations that have tremendous impact in the world - the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and Pivotal Ventures - make her an incredible asset and we’re excited to have her on our team."
