Meghan and Harry news - live: Prince William says royal family ‘not racist’ after Oprah interview claims

The Duke of Cambridge has said that the royal family is “very much not a racist family”, and that he has yet to speak to his brother following Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey on Monday night.

One of the most shocking allegations that came out of the two-hour TV special was the claim that “concerns” had been raised from within the royal family about the colour of Meghan and Harry’s child’s skin.

A palace statement released on behalf of the Queen on Tuesday said the “whole family is saddened” by how “challenging” the previous years have been for the royal couple.

It added that the allegations of racism are “concerning” and will be “addressed by the family privately.”

On Tuesday, Piers Morgan announced he would be quitting his role as Good Morning Britain co-host following a backlash to his comments about not believing Meghan saying she experienced suicidal thoughts while in the royal family.

Meanwhile, the head of the journalism trade body the Society of Editors has also stepped down after the organisation came under fire for its response to the couple’s accusations of racism in the UK media.
