Meghan and Harry brave the snow showers to greet crowds in Bristol

Meghan and Harry braved the snow showers to go on a walkabout and greet well-wishers in Bristol today.

The pregnant Duchess of Sussex smiled as she greeted crowds in the heart of the city as the snowflakes were coming down thick and fast.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were visiting a snow covered Bristol for a day of royal engagements.

Harry and Megan were there to tour the Bristol Old Vic theatre, which is undergoing a multimillion-pound restoration, and travel to the Empire Fighting Chance, a charity using boxing to support children failing at school.

It is Meghan's third royal engagement in just three days. The Duchess, who is set to give birth in April, wore her hair loose with a dark coat and green boots with a matching bag.

Dozens of people waited in the chilly conditions to greet the royal couple.

The cold weather that swept in overnight and left the city carpeted in snow forced nearby Bristol Airport to be shut for a period and closed dozens of local schools.

The Bristol Old Vic was built in 1766 and has a unique place in British theatre history, having nurtured the talents of countless famous actors from Daniel Day-Lewis and Greta Scacchi to Peter O'Toole and Jeremy Irons.

Stirling Prize-winning architects Haworth Tompkins led the theatre's redesign, which includes a full-height timber and glass-fronted foyer that reveals the original auditorium facade to the street for the first time.

The internal layout has been transformed, with the restoration of the Georgian Coopers' Hall, a new studio theatre created in the old barrel vaults and mezzanine galleries.

The project is the second stage of a 10-year, £26 million programme to completely overhaul and safeguard the future of the theatre.

During the visit, the duke and duchess will drop in on a workshop attended by local schoolchildren, which is part of Bristol Old Vic's outreach programme.
