SHILLONG: The daily Covid-19 count went further up on Wednesday with 558 new positive cases and six more deaths while 375 recoveries took the number of recovered cases to 53,638 in the state.
“The deaths due to Covid-19 related complications recorded today (Wednesday) included four in East Khasi Hills and one each in Ri-Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills,” a senior official in the state health and family welfare department said.
The new Covid-19 cases detected on Wednesday were 14 in East Garo Hills, 12 in East Jaintia Hills, 192 in East Khasi Hills, 15 in North Garo Hills, 62 in Ri-Bhoi, 22 in South Garo Hills, 11 in South West Garo Hills, 24 in South West Khasi Hills, 140 in West Garo Hills, 22 in West Jaintia Hills and 44 in West Khasi Hills, the health official informed.
The East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong, is the most Covid-19 affected district with over 11% positivity rate, 1,295 active positive cases and 703 deaths, followed by West Garo Hills with 1,005 active cases and 49 deaths, Ri-Bhoi with 587 active cases and 41 deaths and West Jaintia Hills with 378 active cases and 93 deaths, West Jaintia Hills with 378 active cases and South West Khasi Hills with 230 active cases, while the five other districts had less than 200 active cases each as on Wednesday.
Till today, 790967 persons across the state were tested for Covid-19, of whom 732134 tested negative, data released by the National Health Mission, Meghalaya reflected. On the other hand, 31,544 healthcare workers received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 21,170 received the second dose while 97,110 frontline workers got the first jab and 30,488 took the second shot, as per official report.
