Meghalaya logs 9 more Covid deaths, 556 new cases

SHILLONG: The death of nine Covid-inflicted persons, eight of whom were not vaccinated against the virus, increased the number of deceased due to the disease to 1,118 and 556 new cases of infection took the tally of active cases to 5,574 in Meghalaya on Tuesday.

With 816 more recoveries, the total number of recovered cases stand at 59,803. The state has registered 66,495 confirmed Covid cases so far.

“The deaths due to Covid-19 recorded today (Tuesday) were five in East Khasi Hills and one each in East Jaintia Hills, South West Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills and West Jaintia Hills,” a senior official in the State directorate of health services said.

The new Covid-19 cases detected on Tuesday included 196 in East Khasi Hills, 92 in West Khasi Hills, 85 in West Garo Hills, 65 in West Jaintia Hills, 48 in Ri-Bhoi, 28 in South West Khasi Hills, 12 in North Garo Hills, 11 in East Jaintia Hills, seven in South Garo Hills and six each in East Garo Hills and South West Garo Hills, the official in the health and family welfare department said.

As many as 8,59,717 persons have been tested for Covid-19 in the state till Tuesday, of whom 7,93,222 have tested negative for the virus.
