Meghalaya logs 513 new Covid cases, 14 more deaths

SHILLONG: Covid-19 cases continued to surge in Meghalaya as 14 more people succumbed to the virus on Thursday, increasing the fatality figure to 988.

On the other hand, 513 new cases took the total number of active cases up to 4,413, while 307 people recovered from the infection, as the total number of recoveries went up to 53,945. Of the 14 fatalities recorded, 11 were from East Khasi Hills and one each from South West Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills, as per information received from the state health and family welfare department.

Meanwhile, the fresh Covid-19 cases included 12 from East Garo Hills, six each from East Jaintia Hills and South Garo Hills, 184 from East Khasi Hills, 25 from North Garo Hills, 70 from Ri-Bhoi, 15 from South West Garo Hills, 28 from South West Khasi Hills, 105 from West Garo Hills, 35 from West Jaintia Hills and 27 cases from West Khasi Hills, the health department informed.

The East Khasi Hills has been the affected district with over 11% positivity rate, 1,361 active positive cases and 714 fatalities, followed by West Garo Hills with 1,087 active cases and 49 deaths, Ri-Bhoi with 598 active cases and 41 deaths, West Jaintia Hills with 353 active cases and 94 deaths and South West Khasi Hills with 246 active cases and 10 deaths.
