Megan Thee Stallion’s biggest defender logged on this week, and not a moment too soon. The Grammy-Award winner is dating NBA Champion Klay Thompson now. If you somehow missed the “Lover Girl” rollout, yeah, that’s all about the former Golden State Warriors star. But, some former NBA players haven’t exactly been kind in talking about Meg. Once Klay got word of the disrespect, he went to put a stop to it immediately. Almost everyone online applauded the shooting guard for the way he stuck up for his girlfriend.
During the Hoopin’ n Hollering podcast, Jason Williams and Patrick Beverly discussed Thompson’s slow start to this season. Klay’s current team, the Dallas Mavericks, recently made the decision to move the former All-Star to the bench instead of his customary starter role. But, it’s not a day that ends in -y without someone dragging a male athlete’s significant other into the limelight when they’re not playing well. (See one Swift, Taylor and Simpson, Jessica for more information on this phenomenon…)
Williams would even go so far as to directly blame Meg for the shooting struggles Thompson is facing. But, the former 3-point shooting champion clapped back. Klay responded, “Referring to my GF as a “p***y” is so disgusting and disturbing. Especially from someone who played in the NBA . How would yall feel if I referred to your wives in such a way ? @patbev21 Do better fellas . Very disappointing.”
Kudos to the NBA star for immediately standing his ground in the face of all that negativity. (Also, if we’re to keep it real for a second, this particular player has battled multiple serious injuries just to get back out onto the floor. At 35 years old, we shouldn’t be expecting peak performance Klay anymore.) Recent years have seen athletes using their platform to spout more of this kind of rhetoric than things that actually uplift people. Sometimes, you forget that a ball player can use their words for good. So, in that way Thompson scored more points with the fans by responding and sticking up for Meg.
Klay Thompson stands up for Megan Thee Stallion

A lot of fans were surprised to learn that Megan Thee Stallion was dating Klay Thompson to begin with. That day the news broke on social media, Tons of folks couldn’t help but share their enthusiasm for the beloved pop star. Then, as “Lover Girl” dropped, it became clear that this relationship was more serious than we previously believed. Megan and Thompson seemed very happy with their courtship thus far, and that hasn’t slowed down. Even as the pop star gears up for more music, it’s been fun to see the NBA player pop-up in her posts occasionally.
From that legal situation with Tory Lanez to other strange beef from other rappers, our girl Meg can’t seem to catch a break. Every couple of months, somebody has something wild to say about this woman. Meanwhile, all she’s doing is cosplaying cool anime characters or eating ramen with KPOP idols? Nothing warrants all this vitriol. Her boyfriend is a grown man, who has acknowledged he’s out of his prime as a basketball player. If he’s making peace with it, why are you mad? During an Instagram Live last month, the rapper alluded to bot campaigns as the source of all this drama.
“When I do peep online and see what y’all doing, I feel like y’all get so easily riled up and easily discouraged when y’all know people get paid to talk crazy about me,” Meg told her fans. “Like, don’t it seem a little weird like how overwhelming a lot of Megan Thee Stallion hate seem? Like, it don’t seem right, do it?”
“It’s not, because people are getting paid to do this. These are bots, these are paid people. Like, if you scroll through some of these people’s tweets, it be a man that’s been tweeting about sports for eight years. Now all of a sudden, he just hate Megan Thee Stallion. These people are getting paid to do this. Stop listening to them,” she added. “B—h, they time up … What is there even to hate on? I don’t be doing that. I’ll be in the house with my man [Klay Thompson], with my dogs, watching anime, at the studio.”
