Megan Thee Stallion rushed to hospital after falling 'very ill' during Broadway performance

Megan Thee Stallion was taken to hospital after becoming unwell during a performance of Moulin Rouge! The Musical in New York on Tuesday evening.

The 31-year-old artist, who is currently appearing as Harold Zidler in the Broadway production, is understood to have fallen ill shortly after the opening scenes.

The performance was paused while she received medical attention before she was transported to a nearby hospital.

“Megan started feeling very ill and was promptly transported to a local hospital, where her symptoms are currently being evaluated,” a spokesperson told Daily Mail.

“We will share additional updates as more information becomes available.”

Audience members described a sudden interruption during the performance at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre.

Loren Lorosa, a producer for The Breakfast Club, said the show was halted shortly after Megan appeared in the opening scenes.

“They just stopped Moulin Rouge mid show, apologised to the audience and told us to stay seated,” she wrote, adding that security initially reassured those in attendance there was no cause for concern.

Lorosa later said the performance resumed without the rapper, with another actor stepping into the role for the remainder of the evening.

Meanwhile, Megan’s hairstylist, Kellon Deryck, posted an update on X, writing: “Everyone say a prayer for Megan, we are all at the hospital.”

The rapper only began her Broadway run on March 24 and is due to appear in the production until May 17.

Ahead of opening night, Megan had spoken about her excitement at swapping the stage for theatre.

“HOTTIES IM ON BROADWAY!!” she wrote on social media following her first performance on March 24, referencing her fanbase.

The artist is best known for chart-topping hits including Savage, WAP and Body.

In 2021, she won three Grammy Awards for Best Rap Song, Best New Artist and Best Rap Performance, and was nominated for Album of the Year the following year.

The role of Zidler was originated on Broadway by Danny Burstein, who won a Tony Award for his performance in 2020.

More recently, Bob the Drag Queen took on the part for an eight-week run earlier this year.

The Standard has contacted Megan Thee Stallion’s reps for further comment.
