US soccer star Megan Rapinoe’s girlfriend has blasted Donald Trump after he criticised her partner for saying she would not go to the White House if she won the World Cup.

Ms Rapinoe, 33, said in a previous interview “I’m not going to the f***ing White House”, when asked if she was excited about the prospect of visiting the US President’s home.

This prompted President Trump to state he would invite the women’s side to the property, win or lose, after the tournament.

But he added Ms Rapinoe, who has more than 150 international caps, needed to “win first before she talks”.

Sue Bird said President Trump criticising her girlfriend felt

Following this, Ms Rapinoe’s partner Sue Bird, a professional basketball player, to write an essay titled “so the President f***ing hates my girlfriend”.

Describing her reaction to President Trump, in her piece for The Players’ Tribune, she said: “I mean, some of it is kind of funny….. but like in a REALLY? REALLY? THIS GUY??? kind of way. Like, dude — there’s nothing better demanding your attention?? It would be ridiculous to the point of laughter, if it wasn’t so gross.”

President Trump said Megan Rapinoe should

Ms Bird, who plays for Seattle Storm and has represented the US throughout her career, said it was “weird” to have “the literal President of the literal United States (of literal America) go Full Adolescent Boy on your girlfriend”.

After slamming his policies for “ruining the lives of so many innocent people”, she added: “And then what’s legitimately scary, I guess, is like….. how it’s not just his tweets. Because now suddenly you’ve got all these MAGA peeps getting hostile in your mentions. And you’ve got all these crazy blogs writing terrible things about this person you care so much about. And now they’re doing takedowns of Megan on Fox News, and who knows whatever else.”

Concluding how she felt, she said: “It’s like an out-of-body experience, really — that’s how I’d describe it. That’s how it was for me.”

Ms Bird, 38, added that you “cannot shake that girl”, in reference to Ms Rapinoe, adding she seemed “completely unfazed”.

Ms Rapinoe faced the backlash from Trump after he responded to her comments on not attending the White House by tweeted: “Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!

“Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!”

Ms Rapinoe and the US side, which she co-captains, are to compete in the finals of the world cup on July 7, after defeating England in the semi-final on Tuesday night.
