Megan Rapinoe on her dominance during Pride Month: ‘Go gays!’

USWNT co-captain Megan Rapinoe scored two goals Friday to lead Team USA past France in a match worthy of the World Cup Final, increasing her goal total to five for the tournament to put herself in the contention for both the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball.

Rapinoe has now scored all four of the USWNT’s goals in the knockout stages, and many fans on Twitter reveled in Rapinoe’s on-field response to President Donald Trump, who tweeted that she should “win first before she talks.”

Rapinoe’s magical run through the World Cup happens to be during Pride Month, and she reflected on being “gay and fabulous” on the world stage after her stellar game against France.

Via The Guardian:

“Go gays!” she said after the 2-1 quarter-final victory over France in Paris and when asked to comment on whether it being Pride month made her contribution more personally significant. “You can’t win a championship without gays on your team – it’s never been done before, ever. That’s science, right there!

I’m motivated by people who like me, who are fighting for the same things. I take more energy from that than from trying to prove anyone wrong. That’s draining on yourself. But for me, to be gay and fabulous, during Pride month at the World Cup, is nice.”
