Megan McKenna is moving on from her doomed romance with tragic Mike Thalassitis by reportedly striking up a romance with an ex-con.

The Towie star, 26, has been dating Zack Gilbert , 26, for the last three months, according to The Sun Online .

Gilbert was sentenced to five years in a young offender institution for wounding and assault over an attack on  French banker in London in 2013.

A source said: "Megan and Zack have been dating for a good few months but have got serious in the last three.

“She has been keeping the relationship low key as it's been a difficult few months for her after Mike's passing."

Zack Gilbert was jailed for five years in 2013 for an unprovoked attack on a French banker at a bar in Shoreditch, East London (Metropolitan Police)

The publication reports that Gilbert has been helping Megan deal with her grief over the loss of Mike, who was found hanged in a London park in March.

The former couple dated for around sevens months, but split for good last summer.

Megan has been single since the break-up.

Gilbert was accused of holding down Frenchman Jonathan Agostini, 33, in an attack at The Light Bar in Shoreditch High Street in 2013.

His co-accused James O’Docherty was said to have kicked Agostini repeatedly in the head.

Speaking after the sentencing, Agostini said: "It will not change my opinion of London, not because some stupid kids behaved like that.

"This will not drag me down. Justice is done now. They will have a criminal record and their future is ruined, but hopefully they will learn from their mistake.

“Fortunately for me, I don’t have any subsequent damage except the scar on my head which is now covered with hair. I could have died or lost an eye, so in fact I was fortunate.

After serving his time, Gilbert is believed to have turned his life around and gone on to become a successful businessman.

He's the co-owner of a persona shopping service called Affluent Attire.

Mirror Online has contacted a representative for Megan for comment.
