Megan Barton Hanson has opened up about feeling “hurt” when Dancing On Ice fans claimed that ex-boyfriend Wes Nelson “deserves” to be with his “athletic and natural” skating partner Vanessa Bauer.
The former Love Island contestant opened up about the fallout from her split from Nelson at the Glamour Beauty Festival, describing Bauer as her “polar opposite”.
“I think a big thing was his Dancing On Ice partner,” Barton Hanson said.
“She is so the polar opposite to me, I’ve got a very womanly figure and I have curves, I don’t go to the gym.
“She’s very toned and athletic and natural and people are like: ‘See that’s who he deserves, a real natural person.’
“I’m not going to lie, it hurts, I’m human. Just because I have a blue tick next to my name and on a show for a couple weeks it doesn’t make me invincible, it still hurts.”
She went on to share her belief that Nelson was not “shallow” enough to be swayed by the comments, adding: “But I just think that’s that person’s opinion. I know what happened between me and Wes and I think he’s not that shallow, it’s not about the outside shell.
“I think Wes is – was – deeper than that. It’s not about the outside shell… it’s about the person you are in love with so I just have to put that to one side and you can’t please everyone.
“Everyone will have their own opinion. Only me and him know what actually happened.”
Reports over the weekend suggested that Nelson and Bauer had a ‘fling’ in the early stages of Dancing On Ice following his split from Barton Hanson, and the former Love Islander seemed to take a subtle swipe at her ex in an Instagram Story shared during the final of the ITV show.
Following the discussion at the Glamour event, Barton Hanson shared a photo in which she posed with her fellow panellists, captioning it: “Such an amazing afternoon with HONEST, strong people.”
She previously hit out at Dancing On Ice producers for “deliberately” pairing then-boyfriend Nelson with “the youngest, hottest girl” on the show in a bid to “stir things up.”
“The judges making comments like Jason [Gardiner] saying that Wes and Vanessa made a ‘lovely couple’ was frustrating,” she told OK! magazine in February.
