'Mega signing' - Chelsea fans agree on Manchester United as transfer deal edges closer

Chelsea supporters are in full agreement following the news that Manchester United are edging towards a deal for Real Madrid's Raphael Varane.

The French centre-back had been previously linked with a move to Chelsea amid rumours that he could be set to quit the Santiago Bernabeu.

Having seen the Blues miss out on the Frenchman's former club teammate, Sergio Ramos, who elected to join French giants Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer, supporters were understandably keen for the Blues to secure Varane's signature.

However, that now looks highly unlikely to occur, with United having taken a significant step towards signing him.

As reported by our sister title the Manchester Evening News, United are close to agreeing personal terms with the centre-back and hope to conclude the deal within the next few weeks.

Meanwhile, there is optimism that Varane is set to become a Red Devil ahead of next season.

The news was evidently noticed by Chelsea fans and they took to Twitter on Monday to give their reactions.

Here is a selection of the best:

Varane has just one year remaining on his current contract with Real Madrid, hence their willingness to see him sold this summer as opposed to losing him for free next year.

Chelsea were previously linked with a move but appear to have moved onto alternative targets.

Recent reports have suggested that the Blues are eying AS Roma's Gianluca Mancini and could offer the Serie A giants Kurt Zouma, who is apparently expected to leave Stamford Bridge, in exchange.
