Mega Millions numbers: Winning lottery ticket worth $437 million sold in New York

It look like 2019 is off to a great start for the New York resident holding the Mega Millions ticket won on New Year’s Day.

The $437m ticket, with an instant cash option of $261.8m, was sold in a convenience store in Long Island, New York. The winning numbers– 34, 44, 57, 62, 70, and Mega Ball 14—were purchased at the Brookville Auto Service Centre in Glen Head, New York. It is the eighth-largest jackpot in Mega Millions history.

The store's owner, Jay Huang, told NBC New York that he is happy for the winner. He has good reason to be: Mr Huang will get a cut from lottery officials for selling the ticket.

Mr Huang said that he would give the money earned from his share to his employees.

In addition to the mystery New York winner, other people had winning tickets worth between $1m to $4m in Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Texas.

The Mega Millions jackpot has been growing since October, when more than $1.5 billion in lottery prizes were won in South Carolina.
