Mega Millions jackpot climbs to $940M, the 4th-largest prize in game history

After no top winners Tuesday, the first Mega Millions jackpot of 2023 will be the fourth-largest amount in the game’s history.

The estimated prize for Friday drawing is $940 million.

After no ticket matched all six numbers in Friday’s drawing, the jackpot increased by about $145 million. The winning numbers were 25, 29, 33, 41 and 44, plus the gold Mega Ball 18

The jackpot has only passed $700 million three other times, and each of those prizes eventually surpassed $1 billion before a winner was drawn, according to a Mega Millions news release. The last time a draw that size happened was a $1.05 billion pot on Jan. 22, 2021.

According to Mega Millions, players have a 1 in 24 chance of winning some sort of prize when they play ranging from $2 to the jackpot.

The next Mega Millions drawing is set for Friday.
