Mega Malamar is truly mesmerizing—if not a little creepy—in latest Pokémon Z-A reveal

The Pokémon Company has finally revealed Mega Malamar for Pokémon Legends: ZA, after a week-long marketing campaign that featured several videos of adoring Malamar fans. Upon further inspection, it's clear the videos held an unsettling truth: almost all of the Malamar fans seemed to be under some sort of hypnosis.

Well, now we know the truth, and yes, it was Malamar alongside a misguided trainer slowly mesmerizing the denizens of Lumiose City. In a neat reveal trailer that continues the in-game lore, Pokémon showcased the events of the last week through a different lens, revealing Mega Malamar's role in the many different videos.

This latest video fully showcases Mega Malamar, now sporting a slender design that both slims and elongates the creature. Meanwhile, it appears to be using its tentacles to cover its head, giving it a resemblance to a large brain.

Finally, the video shows Mega Malamar using its final two tentacles and glowing lights to slowly hypnotise the viewer. It's an interesting reveal that plays well with the established knowledge of the creature, and fans have been more than happy to play along with the Malamar-obsessed joke.

In the comments below the video, fans have noted the new design is "giving Megamind and I absolutely love it," alongside another comment, saying "My friend Mega Malamar looks fantastic! I can't believe I used to be a Teddiursa fan before! Now all I can think of is Mega Malamar!"

There are just a few short weeks left until Pokémon Legends Z-A releases on Oct. 17, and we fully expect a few more Mega Evolution reveals in the interim. But for the moment, this week of creepy videos and the eventual reveal feels perfectly at home as we creep towards spooky season.
