Mega Lidl on the way as Granton store to expand into soon-to-close Iceland supermarket

Lidl is set to expand its Granton store by moving into the neighbouring Iceland supermarket, which is set to close later this month.

Works on the expansion are set to start next month.

Edinburgh Live reported this week how Iceland on West Granton Road would be shutting to customers for good on 30 May.

A spokesperson for the frozen food supermarket confirmed that they are expected to be out of the premises by the end of the month, although this "may yet be delayed as a result of the Covid-related uncertainties affecting all food retailers at present".

The building is owned by Lidl, who have a shop next door, and Iceland said that their landlord wants to take the building for their own use.

Lidl have now confirmed this, revealing that they plan to expand their existing Granton store now that the lease with Iceland is coming to an end.

They add that works are expected to start next month and more details will be announced at the time.
