Meet the young Liverpool tennis player taking on Venus Williams at Wimbledon

A young Liverpool tennis player will take on former World Number 1 Venus Williams tomorrow at Wimbledon.

Sarah Beth Grey, from West Derby, told how Venus and her sister Serena inspired her to take up the sport 15 years ago.

And tomorrow she'll come face-to-face with her hero in mixed doubles.

She said: "When I found out, I was really excited, Venus was an idol of mine growing up, they were an inspiration to everyone, they got me into playing tennis.

"My first memory was watching them playing at Wimbledon when I was about eight or nine with my dad.

"So to be able to play against her now is pretty surreal."

The 23-year-old is paired with fellow Brit Scott Clayton while Venus will play alongside American Frances Tiafoe.

Her family travelled down from Liverpool to support the former Lister Drive Primary pupil this week.

Sarah was unfortunate to lose her first Wimbledon match on Wednesday where she partnered Eden Silva.

She said: "I really enjoyed it, I was a bit nervous at the start but I think I managed to hit all of the nerves out in the warm up.

"We managed to nearly turn it around in the second set it was an amazing experience to play our first Wimbledon together."

When asked how she battles the nerves, she said: "My routine is the same as every other tournament, if I get more nervous than usual I go through deep breathing techniques.

"I try not to get too nervous although it is Wimbledon!"

But Sarah is determined to keep herself grounded ahead of the big match against her idol.

She added: "I've got to put all of that behind me and see it as another match."
