Meet the Shane Lowry look-a-like swarmed by golf fans in Portrush mistaking him for Open hero

He was the man of the moment in Portrush on Sunday night, as Shane Lowry was crowned Champion Golfer Of The Year 2019 after winning the Open .

But as fans flocked to the bars around the North Coast to toast the Irishman's success, one man got more than he bargained for as he was inundated with selfie and autograph requests.

Curtis Kinney, 23, was swarmed by fans as he enjoyed a drink with friends in The Deerstalker, Portrush with many mistaking him for The Open champion, Belfast Live reports.

Speaking to the Irish Mirror, whilst on the golf course himself, Curtis said it was all a bit of craic.

He added: "It doesn't happen all the time, but I usually get mistaken for Andrew Beef Johnson, another golfer, but I think for the day that was in it yesterday and what I was wearing, people thought I was Shane.

"People started talking to me and asking for pictures and then word spread when Kelly's put a picture on their Facebook of me saying, 'Could it be?' and all of sudden everyone was asking for pictures and videos.

"I'm always up for a laugh so it was great craic."

Curtis, who attended the Darren Clarke Golf School for a few years, said he was even being mistaken for Lowry on the course .

He added: "I haven't played much for the last few years as I picked up a football injury but I'm out here at the minute playing Bushfoot Golf Club and someone walked past me on the course earlier and just said, 'alright Shane', so it's funny."

The DRD worker said people from all over the world were offering to buy him drinks in the bar after the Offaly man's major win.

He added: "I met ones from America, Spain, all over the place, it was all great craic. I've never met Shane himself, thought I'd bump into him last night but didn't get the chance to."
