Meet the rare albino squirrel living in one Edinburgh's most exclusive parks

A rare albino squirrel has been spotted enjoying the crisp winter weather in Edinburgh's Saughton Park.

The cute animal was captured on camera by amateur photographer Bill Brown near the west end park.

Despite being one of the capital's most elusive residents, the squirrel was delighted to pose for a few pictures.

An albino squirrel is so rare the chances of spotting one are just one in 100,000, with around only 50 of them living in the UK.

According to Edinburgh Live , it is not the first time the white rodent, with its distinctive red eyes, has been seen but these pictures are some of the best and clearest yet.

Bill said he saw the squirrel near the park earlier this week, but he was reluctant to reveal the exact location in case hundreds of people descended on it, scaring off the wildlife.

Sharing the pictures on the Friends of Saughton Park Facebook group , Bill commented: "It's not often you get to see a wee albino."

While others messaged saying "Lovely someone's got a good shot of him! He's been around for the last three years! Lovely wee chap!"

Another said: "Great pic. Yes, we see him round our way a lot, although hadn't for a while. Good to know he's keeping well!"
