Meet the little girl who stars alongside Edgar in the John Lewis Christmas advert 2019

The John Lewis Christmas advert has arrived and it stars an adorably clumsy dragon and a little girl called Ava who becomes his best friend.

As Excitable Edgar gets carried away with his fire breathing skills, he ends up being shunned by the people in his village who are fed up with him ruining everything with his flames.

Only Ava understands that he can’t help it and continues to stands by her pal. But who is the little girl who stars in the most anticipated of the year?

Ava is played by Ruby Dailly, a 10 year old school girl from Glasgow, who was chosen from thousands for the role, according to the Mirror .

Ruby said: "Ava keeps on being friends with the dragon, even though he sets everything on fire.

"He doesn't mean to so he gets sad whenever I’m mad at him."

The advert is the brainchild of agency adam&eveDDB, who also created John Lewis’' 2011 ad about the little boy who couldn't wait for Christmas. It was filmed over two weeks in August, in Budapest.

This year’s song is by Dan Smith, of band Bastille, who provides the vocals for a cover of REO Speedwagon's Can't Fight This Feeling.

Craig Inglis, customer director at John Lewis & Partners, said of Edgar: "It started from a spark of an idea - a little dragon’s excitement about Christmas - and became the story of how someone goes the extra mile for their best friend to give just the right gift.

"It’s a funny, heart-warming story that will resonate with our customers as they seek out the perfect gifts for their loved ones this Christmas."
