Meet The Khans: Big In Bolton: Amir Khan and Faryal Makhdoom star in new ‘access all areas’ BBC Three documentary

Amir Khan and Faryal Makhdoom are to star in a new BBC Three documentary, it has been announced.

The boxer, 33, and his wife, 29, are the subjects of Meet The Khans: Big In Bolton, which promises to offer an 'access all areas' look into their lives.

The programme will follow Olympic medallist and boxing world champion Amir and his fashion and beauty influencer wife Faryal, as they juggle a young family, their relationship and career pressures under the glare of modern media.

The couple have lived in Bolton since their lavish wedding in New York 2013.

They have three children, Lamaisah, six, Alayna, two, and Muhammad Zaviyar, who was born earlier this year.

The show was announced at a session for Edinburgh TV Festival earlier this week, where BBC Three controller Fiona Campbell spoke about new titles that will be coming to the channel.

Other commissions include a personal film by Joey Essex, who will embark on a journey where he attempts to come to terms with the impact his mother’s death had on him and his identity.

At the age of 10, his world was ripped apart when his mum tragically took her own life. With no way of coming to terms with what had happened, Joey never processed this devastating childhood event, and says that now time to confront his trauma and move forward with his life.

Elsewhere a six-part documentary with Cara Delevingne, called Planet Sex, will explore the biggest questions in human sexuality.

Another programme, Dance Crush, will see the world of dancing and dating collide, with single dancers and rookies with rhythm hook up on the dance floor to see if any chemistry on it translates off it in a bid to find their perfect partner.

Fiona Campbell, controller at BBC Three, said: “These new commissions represent a good cross section of where we’re going to next alongside our big returners, like The Rap Game and RuPaul’s Drag Race.

“The Joey Essex film and Meet the Khans features figures that have had to struggle for success and are aspirational stories, whereas Dance Crush is entertaining escapist content and Planet Sex is centred on themes and questions that are so important to our audience.

“There is huge creative potential at BBC Three and there's more to come from us in the coming months.”
