Meet the Irishman who collects rare Euro coins - and the genius tips that could earn you thousands

This is the Irishman who collects rare Euro coins - and his tips that could help you earn thousands.

Kevin from Co Cavan has amassed thousands of followers on his YouTube channel "Eire Euro Coins", with one video racking up over 100,000 views.

The 28-year-old said that he was surprised by how quickly the channel "took off".

He also explained how he got into coin collecting, and how relatively simple the process is.

He told the Irish Daily Mirror: "You can get the coins from your bank account, your local bank branch whether it's AIB or Permanent TSB.

"I started doing that, getting €100 worth and going through them since it was a quicker way of collecting coins than through my change.

"The making videos came a bit later since it's a very big thing in the UK, there's a load of guys going through pound coins, there's not many doing it for Euros, and there's only a handful doing it in English.

"I started it not thinking it would become anything big, or taking it seriously, and it's happening to grow a lot now, it really took off in the last couple of months."

Kevin said that certain coins are worth more than other because there are simply less of them in circulation.

He continued: "Some would definitely be very desirable and low mintage with very little of them made.

"And it's the four microstates we have that use the Euro, Andorra, San Marino, the Vatican, Monaco, they release very little amounts of coins, you can still find them in your change if you look out for them.

"They make coins with a low mintage purposefully to make them more valuable and desirable for collectors, but you can still find them in your change if you're on the lookout for them.

"If you want to buy a coin from those countries it could cost €20 if not more, up to €50, up to €200 euro sometimes, it's crazy.

"The chances of finding them are very, very, very slim, but not impossible if someone broke it out of its container and spent it, not knowing what it was worth."

He continued: "The normal coins with normal designs can be hard enough to find sometimes, you might get maybe double the price of the coin face value, or ten euro on a good day.

"The most notoriously high value one is a Grace Kelly coin from Monaco, I think that's €2000 euro because there's only 10,000 of them made. They were made for collectors, the chance of you finding that in your wallet would be very, very slim, but some people would pay €2000 for that one."

And Kevin offered some advice to anyone looking to get into the hobby, and how to get your hands on some of the rarest and most valuable coins.

He explained: "When I started off again I tried to pay as much as possible in cash, to get change. I know it's a bit different these days, even letting your family or friends know that you're on the lookout for coins so they can keep them aside for you.

"I guess just pay with cash more and that would be a good start."
