Meet the homeless man who didn't have to sleep rough after a reveller handed over his bank card and PIN

A homeless man who returned a reveller's bank card after getting cash says the Good Samaritan's gesture meant he didn't have to sleep rough.

Colin Martin, 32, was asking people if they had any spare change so he could stay in a warm bed for the night.

Walking by Newcastle City Centre night spot Harry's Bar, Colin went up to a group to ask if they had any cash.

It was then that an unknown party goer handed over his bank card and PIN number, telling Colin to take £20 out.

The moment Colin returned with the cash was caught on camera and later posted online, with people praising the unknown man.

Colin, who has been living rough since he was a teen, said: "I was walking about and trying to get money for somewhere to stay for the night.

"I walked up to this group and the guy said he had no change, he only had his card.

"I jokingly said 'I take card' and when I went to walk away the guy told me to I could take his card and get some money, if I promised to come back. He said to take out £10 for myself and £10 for him.

"I got a receipt as well and when I came back he asked what it was for, I said to prove that's all I took."

Colin, who spends most of his time in the Byker area, said the good deed meant the world to him.
