Meet the first baby born in Nottingham on Christmas Day 2020

The parents of the first baby born on Christmas Day in Nottingham say he is the “perfect present”.

This year has been one like no other, with the coronavirus pandemic affecting lives across Nottinghamshire and the rest of the UK.

But for some people, the end of the year brought with it a lot of excitement - and a brand new arrival.

One Nottinghamshire pair were only made to wait just over an hour before they were given a gift like no other.

Baby Luke was born at 1.14am on Christmas Day at City Hospital – arriving slightly earlier than expected.

He weighed nine pounds and six ounces and both mum and baby are doing well.

Mum Shari Richardson, 23, from Broxtowe, said: “It was a long experience – but definitely worth it!

“I’m feeling mostly tiredness now, but also really happy.”

Dad Jordan Taylor, who is from Sneinton and works at the National Ice Centre, said: “It’s not the Christmas present I was expecting, but it was definitely the right one – the perfect present.

“We came into the ward on Christmas Eve. We’re both really excited now to start the new year with Luke. That’s it now – it’s all we’ve got to do, so we can’t wait.”

Luke is both Jordan and Shari’s first child and they had a bit of a wait to meet him - the pair arrived at the hospital's maternity ward at 2.18pm on December 24.

Just less than 12 hours later Shari gave birth to Luke at the maternity ward at City Hospital

Maternity staff at QMC and City Hospital have been working throughout the festive period to welcome babies into the world for the very first time.
