Meet the dad cheering up Mansfield kids by riding his trike dressed as Captain America

When his daughter's birthday party was cancelled due to the lockdown, Matthew Warnes found himself with a spare superhero costume.

Matthew , 38, from Mansfield said: "I had created an outfit to surprise my daughter Willow for her birthday party this May, however we aren’t expecting it to go ahead and it made me think how many disappointed children are out there who would have loved a visit from their favourite characters.

"So I thought I could have a little drive around on my trike and wave to the children through their windows.

"Everyone is doing their best in this worrying time and If can entertain the children for a few minutes with a little drive-by and hopefully cheer them up."

Matthew made his journey today [April 8], dressed as the famous superhero, on his Captain America themed trike and was met with a "fantastic response" as residents came to their windows and ends of their drives.

Matthew continued: "We've had a fantastic response today from the amazing little superheroes in Blidworth, lots of people waving from their homes and I've hopefully cheered a lot of people up.

"A big thank you to all the children - and some adults - who drew their favourite character and put it in the window for me.

"I'm still a bit overwhelmed from how well received this has been within the communities."

Sutton Road Primary School and Nursery in Mansfield have invited Matthew to visit the children at the school tomorrow [April 9].

Mansfield's superhero added: "I'm looking forward to going into school for the key workers children tomorrow - their parents are the real superheroes on the front line so it's the least I can do.

Captain America drove around Blidworth from 1pm today [April 8] and will be visiting the children in Rainworth at the same time on Friday.
