Meet the Co Down parents who turned a messy house into a business

Fed up of tripping up over their children's shoes left scattering around the house, these Co Down parents took matter into their own hands.

Roberta and Andrew Beattie, from Co Down , had an idea to tidy up their home which they have turned into a growing business.

Last month the couple, whose three children are aged 10, eight and five, launched Hangimals ShooZoo, a cute but simple and practical place to store shoes.

Speaking to Belfast Live, mum Roberta, 38, said: "We had the idea when our eldest was a toddler, her shoes, as I'm sure all parents can relate to, were all over the floor.

"We were just thinking about what we might need that would encourage her to tidy up and be attractive in a child's bedroom and encourage them to put their shoes into.

"We started putting some pieces together ourselves, fabrics and materials and tried to bring the idea together but we did not get further at that point as we moved house and had two more children and the idea got put on the back burner.

"Then in August 2017, almost two years ago, we decided to bring it all out again and have a look at taking it forward. We decided we would pursue it this time and thought it was a good idea and contacted a company in Wales to help us get the product made in the factory they use.

"We worked back and forth with the company in Wales, did a rough design which they put together and sent back for approval."

After months of ironing out their design and getting the plans together for their business, the couple were delighted with their final three - a lion, polar bear, and elephant.

The business officially launched on May 11 and due to many of their favourite Hangimals being endangered and at risk of extinction, they have chosen to partner with the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) and will donate £1 from every ShooZoo they sell to help support their conservation work.

Roberta added: "This all came from shoes on the bedroom floor which we think is something every parent has to deal with, it's a problem most parents will be able to relate to.

"We think this is something that will encourage them to put their shoes into and something they will like having in their bedrooms.

"Anyone we have spoken to says they understand.
