Meet the 'Benidorm loving' nan who has 47 grandchildren and 115 great grand children

A 'Benidorm loving' pensioner could be about to scoop a world record after her granddaughter contacted a newspaper to reveal her nan has a total of 184 living descendants.

Jean Clark, 88, had 10 children of her own and now has 47 grandchildren, 115 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.

Granddaughter Christine Bird, 46, contacted the Liverpool Echo about the family of her nan who she described as a "fantastic woman with a huge heart and marvellous in every way."

Now it is believed that the octogenarian, from Speke, Liverpool, may have beaten the previous record holder who has 180 descendants in total.

Christine said: "My cousin has just had a baby and I rang my nan up and said come on, how many is this now and she reeled the numbers off.

"We all keep saying that's one for the Guinness book of records."

Christine said her nan has been on her own for years and raised her 10 children single-handedly.

Sadly, out of 10 children, she lost one at six weeks to cot death and one of her daughters developed leukaemia and died aged 12.

Jean also lost her daughter Julie in 2017 after a battle with cancer.

Her surviving children are Sue 68, Tony 57, Sandy 58, Jackie 61, Sammy 62, Micky 53 and Karen 49.

Christine added: "She's a feisty little thing and doesn't take any rubbish from anyone.

"She's amazing, very family orientated. Never forgets a birthday. She always sends the kids a birthday card with either a scratch card in it or something.

"And she's dead glam, she loves the bingo and going on holidays - she's absolutely amazing.

"She goes on cruises and absolutely loves Benidorm. When she goes it's mostly with her daughter's family or grandson.

"She used to holiday a lot with my mum when she was alive. My mum was her bingo companion and she misses her terribly."

As for whether Christine thinks her nan has the largest living family in the world, she may actually have a case.

Reportedly, a man called Ziona Chana in India born on July 21, 1945, holds the world record as the head of the ‘world’s largest existing family.’

Ziona has 39 wives, 94 children, 14 daughters-in-law and 33 grandchildren, 180 in total - which is just shy of Jean's 184.
