Meet the 'adorable' new puppies lifting the Queen's spirits after Prince Philip's death

The Queen has named two new puppies gifted to her during a difficult time with her husband Prince Philip's illness and subsequent death.

Prince Andrew reportedly gifted his mother the dogs ahead of the death of her beloved husband, reports the Mirror.

The dogs are a dorgi, which is a dachshund-corgi cross, and a corgi.

Fergus the dorgi, is named after her uncle Fergus Bowes-Lyon, who was killed as he led an attack on the Germans during the First World War, while the corgi is named Muick (pronounced "Mick") after Loch Muick on the Queen's Balmoral estate in Scotland.

According to the Sun, Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, decided to get the Queen, 95, two new puppies after his mother previously said she did not plan on having any more pets.

A royal source said: “The Queen did not plan on getting any new dogs as she feared she was getting too old.

“But it was Andrew who surprised his mum with two new puppies when she felt down and alone in the Castle after the Duke was taken to hospital.”

It was reported the Queen had vowed not to get any more dogs after her beloved dorgi Vulcan died last year, leaving just her elderly dorgi called Candy.

A source told the Mail earlier this month: "It’s like the Tower of London not having any ravens. The new puppies are adorable."
