CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo. — The roster for the United States Walker Cup team is set.
Following the conclusion of the 123rd U.S. Amateur on Sunday, the United States Golf Association’s International Team Selection working group and coach Mike McCoy announced the final selections to represent the American team in the 49th Walker Cup at the Old Course at St. Andrews from Sept. 2-3.
The Walker Cup is a 10-man amateur team competition between the U.S. and Great Britain and Ireland. The Old Course has hosted eight previous Walker Cups, more than any other venue, most recently in 1975, when the USA defeated GB&I, 15½-8½
Rising Stanford senior Michael Thorbjornsen, second in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, would’ve represented the United States but withdrew from the competition, as well as the U.S. Amateur, because of a back injury.

Nick Dunlap
Nick Dunlap was the best amateur in the world this summer, culminating with a win in the U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills. In addition, he also won the Northeast Amateur and the North & South Amateur.
David Ford
Ford was one of the first automatic qualifiers for the Walker Cup. He’s ranked fourth in WAGR and is coming off a first-team All-America season as a sophomore at North Carolina. He made the Round of 16 at the U.S. Amateur.
Nick Gabrelcik
Nick Gabrelcik, who will be a senior at North Florida this fall, played his way on to the team with a stellar summer. He won the Southern Amateur and then made the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur.
Austin Greaser
Greaser, seventh in WAGR, made the finals of the 2021 U.S. Amateur and won the 2022 Western Amateur. He made the Round of 32 at Cherry Hills this year. He knows how to be successful in match play.
Stewart Hagestad
The 32-year-old Mid-Amateur will play in his fourth consecutive Walker Cup. He made match play at the Western Amateur and missed the cut at the U.S. Amateur by one shot. He’s ranked 15th in WAGR.
Ben James
James didn’t have a strong summer, but he claimed his spot thanks to his appearance in the quarterfinals at the U.S. Amateur. Ranked sixth in WAGR, James won five times last season at Virginia, claiming the Phil Mickelson Award as the nation’s top freshman.
Dylan Menante
Menante made the round of 64 at the 2023 U.S. Amateur, a year after making a run to the semifinals at The Ridgewood Country Club. He’s fifth in WAGR and had a runner-up finish at the Southern Amateur.
Gordon Sargent
Sargent, the top-ranked amateur in the world, fell to Dunlap in the opening round of match play at the U.S. Amateur, but he also earned low amateur honors at the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club and made a cut at the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic.
Preston Summerhays
Preston Summerhays was a member of the Palmer Cup team and played at the U.S. Open. He made match play at the Western Amateur and U.S. Amateur. At Cherry Hills, he fell to co-medalist Sampson Zheng in the Round of 64.
Caleb Surratt
Surratt also earned his position on the team a couple weeks ago, but the rising sophomore at Tennessee won the individual SEC Championship this spring and lost in 22 holes in the Round of 32 at the U.S. Amateur.
