Meet 'Super Alice', the mum-of-two who's vaccinated over 2,500 people - and she was still jabbing on her birthday

Most people would dream of spending their birthday as far away from work as possible, but not Alice So.

Known around The Vallance vaccination clinic as "Super Alice", the mum-of-two has spent every possible moment giving coronavirus vaccinations at the central Manchester clinic - even taking a shift on her birthday.

Alice, who turned 37 on Saturday (May 8), travels from her home in Altrincham for each clinic - taking shifts on weekends and Bank Holidays around her advanced clinical practitioner training at Brooklands Medical Practice.

She's been helping at the clinics since they started in January, and as of last Monday, May 3, had vaccinated 2,516 people - around 10% of the people vaccinated at the site.

Despite her amazing achievement, Alice is very humble about her work, and didn't even realise how many jabs she'd given out.

She said: "I’m here every weekend, I've just dedicated my time to helping vaccinate as many people as possible.

"I really enjoy these clinics - I used to work here and Ankita, the practice manager, called me up and asked if I wanted to help out.

"It's such a great centre, everyone’s so friendly.

"When Dr Gu told me how many people I'd vaccinated I was really surprised, I’ve totally lost count.

"I’m just doing this when I’ve got spare time.

"Every patient is someone that’s protected now which is just amazing."

Originally from Wales, Alice moved to Greater Manchester in 2003 for her training, and has worked across the region since then.

She always wanted to be a practice nurse, and has spent a lot of time making that dream a reality.

Alice is clearly very popular with staff and volunteers, with half a dozen people coming up to her whilst we spoke to wish her a Happy Birthday.

One of the volunteers even dashed up to her, handing over a present and his best wishes, before getting back to work.

Ankita Shah, the practice manager, brought in balloons to help her celebrate, whilst Dr Tony Gu, the GP who directs the vaccination clinic, arranged a cake for the occassion.

Alice usually spends her birthdays celebrating with family, but on Saturday she was planning on going to 20 Stories in Spinningfields for an after-shift treat.

She said: "My family have been very supportive, my husband looks after our children and I just dash out the door like 'Ok bye'

"I'm just really passionate about what I do.

"I'm not just doing it because it’s a job, I love doing it.

"I always wanted to look after people, care for people and make a difference.

"When patients thank you as they’re leaving, it just gives me that buzz."

People over the age of 40 are now being invited for their Covid vaccinations.
