Meet Santa this Christmas at 'Covid-secure' drive-thru grotto in Nottinghamshire

A fire station is opening its doors this weekend for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service’s first ever drive-thru Santa’s grotto to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity.

On Saturday and Sunday December 19/20, Stapleford Fire Station will be opening their appliance bay doors and welcoming residents to meet Santa, in a 'Covid secure' drive through fashion.

Originally, the event was meant to be a one-day event, but tickets sold out in just over one minute, which is why the second day has been added.

Andy Bennett, firefighter at Stapleford Fire Station, came up with the idea and organised the Santa’s grotto.

He said: “2020 has been tough for us all and Christmas is looking slightly different, which is where the idea came from.

“I knew that something like this would lift the spirits of my children, and now we are going to be a part of making Christmas this year a little more special for many more children.

“We have had generous donations to make this day happen, from over 800 selection boxes, Christmas decorations and lights to make our fire station magical.

“It has been great to see our local community come together. We are humbled by the support we have received, and we can’t wait to see how the weekend goes.”
