Meet Ronnie the miracle cat who was stuck in car engine for ten miles

A cat has used up at least one of his nine lives after settling down to sleep inside a nice warm engine - and waking up to find himself travelling ten miles away.

Ronnie ended up trapped inside the car engine after finding somewhere warm to snuggle near his home in Weston-super-Mare.

The owner of the car drove home to Winscombe, North Somerset, some ten miles away, and happened to hear a slightly dishevelled Ronnie meowing from under the bonnet of his car.

He couldn’t get the cat out, so called the RSPCA, and inspector Jo Daniel arrived to help.

She said the intrepid moggy had something of a miraculous escape.

“Poor Ronnie had travelled ten miles from Weston-super-Mare to Winscombe in a car engine bay,” she said.

“Luckily, the owner of the car heard him meowing when he arrived home and called us. I managed to wriggle Ronnie out and thankfully he was uninjured and microchipped so returned him to his very relieved owner,” she added.

The four-year-old cat was chipped, so instead of becoming just another lost cat, was quickly returned to his owner

“As Ronnie’s tale proves, cats can find themselves lost many miles from home so it’s essential for pet-owners to have their animals microchipped so they can be reunited if something like this happens,” said Jo.

“In order for microchipping to be successful owners must also ensure that the contact details are kept up to date,” she added.

During 2018, RSPCA rescued an average of 60 cats a day - a total of 22,000 over the whole year.

This winter, the RSPCA expects to take in more than 10,000 animals in need, and have launched a special fundraising campaign to deliver vital supplies to thousands of abused, neglected and abandoned animals left out in the cold this Christmas.
