Meet Kauan Figueiredo - founder of Dumbarton FC's Brazilian supporters club

With thanks to Manuel Cardo

A Dumbarton FC super fan based more than 6000 miles away in Brazil has told how the club’s history attracted him to the League One side.

Kauan Cordeiro Figueiredo, 17, has seen his Dumbarton FC Brazil Twitter account rack up more than 400 followers in just under a month - with the page stating that it is ‘the first and only page in Brazil dedicated to the great Scottish giant’.

And Kauan, who lives in São José do vale do rio preto, two hours north of Rio de Janeiro, hopes to get to a game at the C&G Systems Stadium one day - as he revealed to the Lennox Herald why he decided to become a Sons supporter.

He said: “I suppose I’m a football fanatic. I follow everything to do with the sport. After seeing that Dumbarton was the first Scottish league champion, I wanted to know more about the club.

“The supporters are incredible and passionate. They’ve welcomed me into their midst and have loved my attitude. They are absolutely sensational.

“I would love to go to a game one day. Who knows if it will be possible. It seems unlikely these days but I’m not losing hope.”

A Sons fan in Brazil is a rare sight, however Kauan hopes that he can help to get Dumbarton’s name out there in a country known for its love of the beautiful game.

He continued: “I’m only missing the kit so I can start getting the club’s name out there in Brazil.

“Supporters out here know very little about Scottish football. They know Celtic and a little bit about Rangers but only because they have Steven Gerrard as a coach.

“I hope that I can get to a thousand followers on Twitter soon, and then more and more after that.”

Extending an invite to Kauan when restrictions allow, Sons general manager Antonia Love said: “It’s amazing to know that Kauan has been following Dumbarton from out in Brazil and was attracted by the club’s rich history.

“We know that we have supporters all over the world; from New Zealand to the Middle East and of course the Swiss Sons, but it’s great that we now have some cheering on Dumbarton in Brazil as well.

“It would be fantastic to welcome him to the C&G Systems Stadium for a game one day but until then we appreciate all the support he is giving to the club from afar.”
