Meet decides to reopen Idukki engineering college from Monday

IDUKKI: An all-party meeting held at Idukki collectorate on Thursday decided to resume the functioning of Government Engineering College, Painav, from Monday.

The meeting was presided over by water resources minister Roshy Augustine and attended by district collector Sheeba George and district police chief R Karuppaswami along with representatives of various political parties. The college was temporarily closed after Dheeraj Rajendran (21), an SFI activist and a seventh-semester BTech student, was stabbed to death in a clash related to the college union elections.

In the meeting, Augustine said that a peaceful atmosphere on the college campus needed to be created. Karuppuswami assured that the district administration would provide all necessary assistance for maintaining the law and order situation.

Representatives of the political parties who attended the meeting also ensured that they would not create any issues on the campus in the future.
