Meet Charlie - the popular pub cat who's got his very own road sign

A crossing sign made especially for a popular cat has been put up outside a well-known Salford pub.

The sign was pitched outside The Kings Arms in a bid to keep their beloved pub cat Charlie safe from speeding cars.

The yellow sign, which can be seen outside the pub’s entrance in Bloom Street, reads: “Slow down – pub cat crossing here”.

The sign was recently replaced after the previous one was stolen by thieves.

Bar worker Daniel Waterhouse, 27, said the sign was put up over fears four-year-old Charlie may be hit by a passing car.

He said: “He’s very popular with all the people that come in the pub.

“His brother got run over when they were five months old.

“He got killed outside the pub. People come around really quick.

“Charlie is always outside trying to catch pigeons. We were worried he might get run over.

“People would notice (the sign) and like it because it’s quirky.”

Charlie is said to love the attention from punters (The Kings Arms)

Pub owner Lisa Connor, 36, said the sign was printed with the help of Salford City Council.

She said: “When the roadworks were going on outside they printed out the first sign and gave it to us.

“It’s slowed down a lot because of the roadworks.

“A lot of people come to the pub just to see Charlie. He loves it a lot.”
