Meet Britain's longest serving police officer who has made five arrests in 50 years

This is Britain’s longest serving police officer, who at 74 has been pounding the beat for 50 years.

But Special Constable Richard Warren has only made five arrests in that time – preferring to help people rather than nick them.

He has picked up six medals during his long career, as well as an MBE for services to policing.

And Richard, who works for the Wiltshire force, has no plans to retire yet.

He said of his low arrest rate: “My main role is to help people, mainly doing rural patrols and foot patrols.

“I try to make sure everyone stays safe. I can arrest people but I don’t go out of the way to.”

Dad-of-three Richard, a computer engineer by trade, from Hullavington, works for the police on Fridays.

He also cares for wife Lynette, 70, who has MS, and has taken part in four of the last five London marathons.

And it sounds like his career will just keep on running…
