For a youngster who struggled to finish education due to lack of money to now a singing sensation who has just won Rs 20 lakh in a reality show, Brinder or Bannet Dosanjh is personification of what talent and determination can achieve.

The fact that the 22-year-old is a MPhil student at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) Amritsar researching on a topic, “How reality shows promote youngsters,” adds that extra bit of glamour.

“My inspiration Daljit Dosanjh telling me that Dosanjh Kala village will now be known by my name first and later him; has made my life already,” said Dosanjh who won the ‘Rising Star’, a reality show on TV recently by two votes and walked away with Rs 20 lakh and a trophy.

Starting the journey by singing in gurdwaras, Bannet took professional training in classical music from Guru Shamshaad Ali Khan. Bannet aims to bring Sufi Kalam and original Punjabi folk songs to Bollywood.

“I am a Gurdas Maan fan,” he signs off.
